The Rafiki Children’s Home was established in 2010. It primarily serves as an emergency, transitional care facility. We care for 20-25 babies and children at any given time. These children each have a unique story. Click HERE to learn more about our children and how you can be a part of their lives.
Rafiki Children’s Home is a refuge for children that have been abandoned or abused. The Children’s Home is staffed by qualified, caring Ugandans that create a family atmosphere. Believing that every life is priceless, we offer these children treasures that every child should be able to take for granted: such as security, dignity, and love. We believe that every child should have freedom to drift off to sleep at night knowing where their next meal is coming from, knowing someone will always be there for them, and knowing that they are safe from abuse or harm.
The home strives to share the love of Christ with our children as well as the people in the nearby villages. By raising these kids in a loving, Christian environment we hope to give them a foundation that will help them succeed in life and one day be able to give back to God, their community and the world. Children are nurtured with warm meals, hot showers, new clothes, clean beds, medical treatment, education, and most importantly, the assurance of love and safety. All meals are eaten together at home and there are Bible stories and prayers every evening. During the day, the children attend school – all the way through high school – which is a rarity in Uganda! We have school tutoring and homework time every afternoon.
Because Rafiki Children’s Home intent is to minister to as many children as God allows, the ministry anticipates the Children’s Home to continue to grow. Rafiki Africa Ministries purchased five acres of land outside of the city and in the future it will be the new location of the Children’s Home. A future goal for this property is to establish a transitional Children’s Home for emergency care, a nursery and primary school, housing for short-term mission teams and long-term missionaries, as well as a medical clinic to meet the physical needs of the community, and a church to meet the spiritual needs of the community. Here children will not only participate in school, but will also learn to grow their own food, and practice life skills enabling them to contribute to the community as they grow.
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
