Today Rafiki Africa Ministries was represented for the first time at MTN Annual Marathon. Thank you guys, proud of you all. #TeamRafiki, #RunningForCause

The MTN Kampala marathon is the biggest sporting event in Uganda organized by MTN. Every year; people from all walks of life take part in this annual event. Some take part for fun; others for charity and others compete to win. MTN Marathon attracts all kinds of people with little regard to status, race, size, height and origin.

The proceedings from the marathon are used for good charity causes for example resettling families that formerly resided in IDP camps. Most of such proceeds come from MTN and other corporate companies that take part in the event. About 18000 – 20000 participants register every year to take part in the event.

The Association of International Marathons (AIMS) certified by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) registers the marathon. It attracts broad based local and international participation including the best runners in the region and foreign elite runners.

The event entails categories such as

  • Full marathon (42.195km)
  • A half marathon (21km)
  • 10km road race
  • 10km wheel chair race
